Remember, when you start off skating forward, place your skates in a "V" configuration.

Start off with four or five quick choppy strides, then long strides. When doing the short quick choppy strides, move quickly on your toes with each stride.

With long strides, you want to have a deep knee bend and extend the power leg to its full extension in each stride. The bent knee should be as close to a 90 degree bend as possible.

Here's a good drill....
Pair off in two's. Face each other. Have one player hold his stick chest high. Have the other player place his hands in the center of the stick as well. Have the player push the other player down to the other end of the rink. Once they are there, they switch pushing position and push back.

Things to look for....
Deep knee bend.
Full leg extension.
Inter edge skate work.
